Former bass player?
So, i feel kinda rookie asking this, but i spend the intire day avoiding school work ,and ended up surching music on allmusic.com.. Finally i read the staind biography, and saw that there was a bass player before ol'skool.. i don't know how accurate this info is, but i'll quote: "Staind's story began in the New England area when vocalist Aaron Lewis and guitarist Mike Mushok met at a Christmas party in 1993. Mushok was able to bring drummer Jon Wysocki into the fold, and Lewis' connection with a bass player (who later left) completed the early lineup." Was there a former bass player (maybe someone from JCAT?), or what?

I read this as well, but I don't know where, I recall from a staind CD itself but it just could be from a site.
Okee, Its even on amazon, and they wouldn't give false info.
I checked the CD's of mine (staind CDs ofcourse 8DD) and It doesnt give this biography, sorry, btu you should ask a hardcore staind fan ;P

Actually, it would have been Aaron that brought Jon into the band because Jon was the drummer in J-CAT (Also the J) with Aaron. (Jon - Chris Aaron Tori). And it's true they did have another bass player before Johnny. Johnny was in another band that Mike and Jon would go see, but Johnny didn't want to play any original songs, he wanted to stick with his cover band, so they tried a bassist that Aaron knew since they couldn't get Johnny, and they had that guy for a year but something happened and it didn't work out. I think I remember hearing he was completely drunk a lot and they didn't get along... or something. But the name escapes me, I really don't remember. I don't think it was Tori (who was the bassist in J-CAT) cause they did the recording from the Infinity around the same time they did Dysfunction so if the band wasn't talking to the person I doubt it would have been Tori.

hmm.. l.. id deff takes lisa word over anyones so wait for her... but if you have seen the homegrown video that came with 14SOG i think he was in it a couple times... and there might be a pic of him somewhere.. i guess it just didn't work out with him... Who really cares though? OLD school is the F'n MAN!!!!!!!!!!!

There was for sure another bass player before Johnny. If only i could remember his name. I'm almost sure his last name started with Mc or Mac...

The Gauntlet: You guys haven’t had a single lineup change during your entire existence as a band. How on Earth does that happen?
Aaron: Well, for the first year of Staind as a band we had a different bassist, four years or five before we got a record deal, so I would have to say that, yes, officially we still haven’t changed any members.

Here's your answer: Staind's original bass player was Peter Mckewen. I know because I played in a band with him during the time he was playing with them in Springfield, Mass. in 1995. (they were not yet signed) He was also a founding member of Staind, although the band has always avoided talking about him. Peter was and is a fantastically talented bass player and singer but he had problems with alcohol and left the band about 8 months before they were "discovered" by Fred Durst in Hartford, CT sometime in 1997. Peter had actually left and returned to Staind a few times, playing with our band on and off. I played with him again in another band in 2002. From what I know, Peter is still cool with John W. but there is still bad blood with Aaron. I've always felt bad for Pete because he is an amazingly talented guy who can play almost anything. Staind's success must be killing him, especially since he was there at the beginning.
