Mr. Lewis, how do you feel about guns now after this?

what if it was one of your daughters in that school that got shot?

EXACTLY.

maybe it is time to re-evaluate things instead of trying to fit a "country boy red neck" persona. This shit just isn't right in the world. Gun freedom needs to be fixed. This is bullshit.

Just put yourself in the shoes of the parents whose kids got shot all because of this gun freedom bullshit.

Not the time, Nima...

I agree, this is bullshit. However, the right to bear arms need not be fixed.

yes. it does.

you say that, but what if it was you that this happened to? you need to stop being so naive

Nima, you know I have always been one of the only ones that actually likes and gets you.  But, I must say that I (w/a very similar stance on guns as Aaron) find this and all things like this a ridiculous argument.  While this guy may have gotten his guns legally, most people that use them for crimes don't.  And, gun laws don't take the guns out of criminals' hands, just mostly law abiding citizens' hands (some of which often are able to stop killings by unlawful gun-wielders once they start).  If you take the guns out of all the law-abiding citizens' hands via gun laws, the only ones left w/them are the criminals that the gun laws don't affect.  Btw, I live in CT, and although am not related to any that were killed today, have spent time in Newtown (at the schools) watching many of the Newtown kids perform for the past 4 years, and am devastated.  But, this does NOT change my stance on Guns.  ;)

Jihadists hijacked a plane on September 11, 2001, and managed to end over 3,000 Americans' lives with it. Let's ban airplanes too.

People drive under the influence daily and selfishly take others' lives when they get behind the wheel. Let's ban cars, trucks, and all automotive transportation.

See, you're trying to fix a problem by changing the means. Had this mentally ill person possessed the will to kill a particular student or other persons, they would have used another means to do so (homemade bomb, for instance?). Ban firearms and you're only punishing those who do right by the law, and right by humanity. I'm 110% with Raina on this one.

There is an old saying,Some people speak before they think, and other people think before they speak. This situation in Newtown Ct. was nothing short of horrific. If you have children you look at things so much differently then you did before they came into your life. They change your way of thinking and how you look at the world until  you breathe your last breath. This tragic event is every parents worse nightmare. To lose a child. It does not have to be from a violent act.Our hospitals are filled with children who will never learn to ride a bike, drive a car,or maybe even start their first day of school.Tragedies happen in many different forms. To call out a musician or anybody else over their views during a time of such tragedy is uncalled for.I'm sure Aaron,Mike,Johnny & Sal as well as millions of others felt that sense of sorrow when you here of anyone who loses a child.I did.So instead of getting on your soap box and bashing the right to own a gun(s) and the fact someone switched gears on the style of music they play ,try praying for those affected.Believe me,there is many cold days ahead in Connecticut, and its not from the weather

Amen.

Those parents need every ounce of support they can get. God give them the will to live and fight another day...

Ghee.... So the solution to all these tragic shootings are to buy more guns? Maybe it's hard to ban guns, but I don't really see the benefit with the gun law. My country for example have very restrict gun laws. You may own a gun for hunting purposes, but that's it. And I'm totally fine with that. And our crime rate is low in compare to the US of A. For as long segregation exist, crime may grow, and what do criminals have along their robbery if you easily can buy guns?

yes. hunting purposes, fine by me. but otherwise, it's way too easy for people to have guns and do shit like this.

What state do you live in Nima? I live in MA, and they practically made it "Mission: Impossible" for me to earn my class A license to carry. They do state and federal background checks, and of course a check on medical records. You need to interview with your municipality's chief of police. It's not an easy process. Don't make it sound like "just anyone" can get a LTC, never mind purchase a firearm.

I also live in the liberal state of Massachusetts and to get a License to carry is an extremely extensive process. Mr Lewis openly believes in his Constitutional Right to bear arms,it is his right as a citizen of this country.Just like freedom of speech or freedom of religion. These are Constitutional Rights set forth by the Patriotic Founding Fathers of our country. To come out swinging before all the facts are presented is rather idiotic. The guns used in this senseless  crime were LEGALLY obtained by this young  mans mother.A person who appears by all accounts to be the 1st victim in this senseless rampage. Were they locked in a gun safe?Who knows. We may never know. They have said they think this young man had some issues mentally..I think his actions will back up that belief. If you believe that a person should not have the right to own a gun,I disagree. They should keep it secured so it is not easily accessible to anyone.Any responsible gun owner I know always keeps them locked up.Again lets not say the sky is falling until we know ALL the facts. And don't throw an innocent bystander like Mr.Lewis into the fire because he openly believes in his Constitutional Right to bear arms.

Weapons in general creates an unpleasant feeling.
Imagine when you walks to the pub and a drunk becomes a pissed. The risk is that he pulls out his gun.

How can you be sure that no lunatic buy weapons?
It's neo-liberalism in a nutshell. A country where people are  free, it's a very beautiful thought philosophically. But when it comes to the table, then the consequences can be devastating for those who lack economic stability. The market is good as a servant but not as a lord, I think so many americans should think about that.
I actually think that Americans in general are in a hole they have dug by themself. It would be hard to ban guns, but I think it's long-term goal. To purchase more weapons will definitely be counter-productive, and it creates insecurity for the population in general.

Sorry, my english aint the best, but as long you get the message.

He isn't saying ban ALL guns he is saying standing by the go to phrase of 'its our constitutional right' isn't enough .... These politicians and NRA lobbyist and gun enthusiasts have to meet and make real effective changes. Other countries have gotten this problem solved without denying a hunter or target shooters, etc rights there is no reason for us not to. And it shouldn't take these mass shootings either a child is shot every day in Chicago it's enough. I also believe security officers are undervalued and clowned in our society instead of employed and respected and maybe less of these things like the Colorado shooting and mall shooting would occur.
