Permalink Reply by Staind413 on January 13, 2009 at 12:03am Aaron has always maintained just being himself through all of the pressure of people trying to change him, and I admire the shit out of him for being able to do that. The entire purpose of music has been completely distorted. Music nowadays seems like it's more about fitting in or looking cool, and less about sounding good and hav\ing some kind of lyrical substance. Aaron, in my opinion, is one of the most original and talented singer/songwriters ever. If you actually look at music before it got so distorted you'd see that MOST of the successful musicians just stood there and sang/played. How about the Beatles, Johnny Cash... or even Elvis! People, like yourself, have become too caught up in the superficial aspect of music and lost sight on the actual music itself. Hey, everyone's entitled to their own opinion, but speak for yourself... don't say shit like "we all".
"Fuck you to the jaded and the FAKE, l'd like to see what you would do. Fuck you and the judgements that you make, we're not all perfect just like you... like you" ;)

Sorry, Frankie, but any that know me had to know I would have a response to this once I noticed it lol.
Although I feel it definitely was not originally worded in the best way, I KNOW I and many at least somehwat understand where nima was coming from, since many of the "Staind Family" have had this discussion on the old board and in person. Do we absolutely LOVE Aaron w/just a guitar solo, feeling he's truly feeling and expressing the lyrics then? Heck, yes. However (partcularly a little over a year ago when Aaron first started playing the guitar on all the songs during Staind shows atm, sans Mud), his also focusing on guitar playing while singing truly DID seem (and still somewhat...at least sometimes still seems to) take away from his fully getting into expressing the lyrics w/full emotion (as when it was just him and a mic lumbering around the stage). Many of us still love nothing more at a Staind show than such times when he drops the guitar (like during Mud), and grabs ahold of the mic/stand (like during Suffocate) seemingly pouring out full-on lyrical emotion. Yes, we are there for the music...the emotion behind the music! BUT, when Aaron doesn't have the distraction of playing the guitar while performing w/Staind, you can HEAR the difference in the delivery, HEARING more emotion come from him when he's walking around, grabbing the mic/mic stand, vs. when he's playing the guitar. So, although we don't NEED to see him walk around and/or grab the mic/mic stand, we do get MUCH more fired up when we see him do that, knowing it will most likely SOUND so much better/more emotive. And, if you just LISTEN to (not watch) Staind bootlegs, you CAN discern the difference.
That being said, the shows are unequivicably still f'n awesome, and I of course will always be at and THOROUGHLY love them! However, I (and, yes, MANY others) did/would prefer Aaron to drop the guitar at Staind shows, focusing completely on/getting lost in expressing the emotion of the lyrics. But, if Aaron is more comfortable, enjoys it more, or wtf ever, playing guitar during Staind shows, then that's the way it shall be. Staind shows are still some of the best one can ever see, Aaron playing the guitar, or not!
