we put too much emphasis on "old" fans vs "new " fans vs "true" fans. it's all good.
i DO think fans upset by the direction of the band are misguided. they feel the band owes them something. ummmm, no. if you like the older music then pop in an older cd and enjoy. it's that s.i.m.p.l.e....don't trash them, that makes no sense.

as a loyal fan, you can dislike the music and give it a bad review.

^A most intelligent response! For years I've heard (and seen) "fans" bash the band and other fans, the whole old fans vs. new fans debacle, and the constant debate over what makes a "real" and loyal fan, etc. One side never seems any better than another...both having the capacity to annoy the piss out of me. Really, does one have to love or even like EVERYTHING about anything to be a "real" and loyal fan of it? Do we like everything about our mates, children, parents, friends, etc. to be a "real" and loyal fan of and to them?!? If so, them I'm a really bad mate, daughter, and friend, when here I (and those that know me) always thought I was loyal to a fault.
Well, I'm still a "real" Staind fan under those circumstances, though, since I DO love (at least always...eventually love) EVERY song of theirs. But, that's probably since I happen to appreciate just about every genre (unlike most). And, due to the fact that I'm certain I would honestly love how Aaron's literally singing about shit on a shingle would sound, since to me he has the most amazing sounding and versitile voice/range/vocal strength.
However, if I told you that I've never seen Staind/Aaron live, don't have anything signed, and don't own anything of theirs, would that really matter...make me less of a "real" and loyal fan? Particularly if let's go to an extreme and say I lived in the African Bush, thus had no money or access? Or, if God forbid I didn't like a song or two (or even a whole album or two), yet I REALLY like the rest and them as a whole? Then can I not be a "real" and loyal fan. I'm sorry, but that sort of elitist attitude annoys me as much as those that bash the band, one of their albums, songs, etc. Mind you, an intelligent and/or non-bashing critique of an album, song, etc. does not offend or annoy me...I've actually been known to make a few myself. ;)
BTW, I'm not pointing fingers at or responding to any ONE specifically. The amalgamation of posts just got me to thinking of how I felt about the subject since it's come up all too often w/varying veiws, and I just felt like adding my two cents to the topic. The whole debate has just always irked me. If one is a fan and one knows it, wtf cares (or should care) if others think so, too?!? ;)
